Hooray! You just ordered a bandana from Tails Up, Pup.
Now what?
Before that bandana makes its way to your mailbox, there’s a lot that happens behind the scenes. From fabric roll to the finished bandana, every step is done in-house by us.
Here’s exactly how we make the best bandanas for your pup that are easy to wear, extremely durable, and of course personalized with their name.
How We Make Your Bandana
Step 1: It Starts as Fabric
Every bandana begins as a roll of fabric. Once your order comes in, we check the pattern you chose, the size, and whether you selected slip-on or tie-on.
Then Nick, our master cutter, finds the fabric and cuts your bandana to the exact specifications of your order. If you ordered more than one bandana, he will cut your entire order at this step.
Step 2: Pressed and Prepped
Next, the fabric is ironed to remove any wrinkles and properly prep it for sewing. This small step helps ensure clean seams and a polished final product.
Step 3: Sewn Together
The front and back pieces are stitched together with care, and we insert the official Tails Up, Pup tag. This is where your bandana really begins to take shape.
Step 4: Flipped and Detailed
After sewing, the bandana is still inside out. We trim all excess threads, flip it right side out, and carefully point the tip so it lies perfectly.
Step 5: Final Press
We use our gravity-fed iron to press the bandana so it arrives wrinkle-free and finished. This gives it a clean and structured look.
Step 6: Personalization (If Selected)
If you choose to personalize your bandana, Dani steps in.
She carefully personalizes your bandana with your pup’s name. This process takes time and precision, but it’s what truly elevates the bandana and makes it one-of-a-kind.
Step 7: Packed and Shipped
Once everything is complete, your bandana is inspected one final time, then packaged up and shipped to you.
As you can see, everything is made to order just for you by hand from start to finish.

What If You Ordered an Embroidered Item?
Our embroidered apparel follows a similar hands-on process.
Here’s how your custom piece comes to life.
How We Make Your Custom Embroidered Apparel
Step 1: We Pull Your Exact Garment
Whether you ordered a corded crew, crewneck, t-shirt, or tote bag, we locate the exact item and size from our inventory.
Step 2: Your Design Is Customized
Dani, our embroidery extraordinaire, loads your design into our embroidery software and customizes it to match your exact order.
That might mean adding your pup's name, adjusting thread colors to match your dog’s fur, or fine-tuning placement so everything looks just right.
Step 3: Hooping and Stabilizing
The garment is carefully hooped, and stabilizer is added. This keeps the fabric stable during stitching and ensures the design adheres beautifully and holds up over time.
Step 4: Stitching Begins
The item is loaded onto one of our embroidery machines. Dani double-checks thread colors, confirms placement, and starts the machine.
Then your design begins stitching out, thread by thread.
Step 5: The Finishing Details
Once stitching is complete, we don’t stop there.
We hand-trim every jump thread, even the tiny ones you might never notice. We remove excess stabilizer and carefully inspect the piece. This extra attention to detail is something we refuse to skip.
Step 6: Final Inspection and Packaging
Your item is folded neatly, inspected one last time, and packaged up to be shipped to you.
Why We Do It This Way
It takes longer. It’s more effort. But we believe it’s worth it.
From the moment you place your order to the moment it arrives at your door, it has passed through our hands multiple times.
That’s what handmade really means to us.
And now, the next time you order from Tails Up, Pup, you’ll know exactly what went into it.
